De Boekenmolen in Meliskerke: A new bookshop full of warmth, space and the joy of reading
Last spring, WSBdesign.com worked closely with shop owner Willy and her husband Piet to create the new interior of De Boekenmolen bookshop in Meliskerke. The bookshop moved to the neighbouring building, a beautiful location close to the area’s distinctive windmill. This marked an exciting step forward, opening up new possibilities. The shop’s retail space has almost doubled in size, allowing its extensive range of books to be showcased much more effectively and making it easier for customers to browse the many genres in a clear and welcoming environment.
Warmth, a homely atmosphere and an engaging shopping experience were at the heart of the design. The warm colour of the painted ceilings and the carefully selected materials create an inviting atmosphere that encourages customers to take their time and explore. Some of the existing bookcases were given a second life in the new interior, preserving familiar elements and seamlessly incorporating them into the refreshed shop concept.
A familiar bookshop with a fresh new look and even more room for stories.
The children’s book corner invites young readers to settle down on a cosy reading bench. At the heart of the shop, a spacious reading and coffee table is beautifully illuminated by creative book-shaped lamps. Large display tables provide plenty of room to showcase books and highlight new titles. Clear signage helps visitors find their way around with ease.
De Boekenmolen also has a separate area dedicated to second-hand books. The spacious counter forms the central hub of the shop and also accommodates the PostNL parcel service.
The result is a contemporary bookshop with a warm, personal character, where functionality and atmosphere go hand in hand. Willy and Piet Wouters are delighted with the result and very pleased with their new shop interior.
